Down the lane, around the bend, not far from where I live, you will come across a wood; it’s a special wood, a wood with wonders. Not far from the centre of it there lived a family of badgers, there was mother, father, and the son Bobby, today’s story is called….
Bobby’s lesson

Bobby was a lazy Badger, he would doze all day and at night he would sleep, in the mornings, he would not make his bed, clean his teeth or even clean his fur, which was very untidy, and knotted, he never cared about even helping his mother to clean out their sett. Now one morning his father came up to bobby and told him, “Bobby, you will have to start taking your turn on the watch shift, whilst your mother and I go out hunting” Bobby didn’t like the idea, but said that he would do it, he found a nice spot on top of the mound just out side of the sett, in the sun, and laid there, watching the butterfly’s flying around, it wasn’t too long before his eyes closed, and off to sleep he went.
It was dark when he awoke, also cold, finding his way back to his sett, he was surprised at the sight that greeted him, it was all in a mess, all the bedding was thrown around, there was no sign of his mother or father, sniffing the air “There has been a new badger here “he went to the back to the main way out of the sett, and saw BLOOD there, “Oh! No, what’s happened here,” He had heard story’s of things called guns that killed badgers, his father had told him of this, sniffing the air again, “that’s mothers sent, ahh and fathers, I will follow it, but there is a strong smell of another badger”.
He followed the scent in to the woods, he could hear, the owl, and it was reminding Bobby that he went to sleep, it was all his fault, it was saying “Who, who,“ he looked around him, sniffing the air once again, “ Well they went this way, “ The scent trail had led him deeper in to the woods, to where it was the darkest, he was so frightened, “ Oh! Its all my fault, if only……” he never finished saying any thing else as a cracking of branches, and snapping of twigs frightened him, looking around he could hear the wind howling and whistling through the trees, it sounded as if it was talking to Bobby, it said “ wwoho, wwwwho”, he looked round him and ran as fast as his little legs would let him.
He ran so fast that he did not realise, till it was too late that he was in farmer Browns field, he stopped so quick that he frightened a cow, that was near him, it looked at him and said “ mmwho, mmwho”, Poor Bobby was so scared, that farmer Brown would come out with his big gun, he turned, and ran, he ran to the woods, ran to his sett, then stopped as he entered. It was different, all the bedding was straight, everything was were it was suppose to be, mother was there, father was there, but his blood went cold, there was the biggest strongest badger he had ever seen , his face was all scared from fights he had, his mother stepped forward , laughing , “ Bobby I would like you to meet your great Uncle Stripe, he came to visit , he saw you asleep on the mound just outside, and soon found out all about you, so he had this plan to make you realise , that it is impotent to keep your bed clean ,clean your teeth, keep you fur clean and to keep a watch over your sett,” Bobby’s great Uncle looked at him.
“So this is your look out” he stared right at Bobby “now what would have happened if it was another badger that wanted to take over your sett, how would your father be able to save you or your mother?” Bobby was very ashamed of him self and promised that he would never ever do it again.
He was more careful in his cleaning of his sleeping area, he did make sure he cleaned his coat, he even cleaned his teeth twice a day, but when his father put him on watch, he did sit in the sun, and watch the butterfly’s, his eyes would droop, but either the wind the owl, or even the cow would remind him by saying “Who, who,” and Bobby would sit up right away and keep a sharp look out.
How many of you, never ever listen to your parents? Or look after your rooms, and be lazy, Bobby was lucky, and was safe, but he could have had some thing really bad happen to him, and so could you, so always listen to your parents.
